Human head louse (Pediculus humanus capitis) scrambling over hair. The head louse is a small parasitic insect that lives its entire life in the hair on the head of humans. An adult head louse may reach 3 millimetres in length. Infestation, called pediculosis, is very common and can cause an itchy scalp, but it is not medically significant. Nonetheless its eggs, called nits, are unsightly, and the condition is often targeted at schools. Darkfield illumination.

Methyl sulfone crystal growth. Polarised light microscopy footage of the formation and growth of crystals of the chemical methyl sulfone (methylsulfonylmethane). The solvent is ethanol. A crystal is a solid material whose atoms, molecules, or ions are arranged in an orderly repeating pattern. Chemicals crystalize out of solution, or dissolve back into solution, depending on conditions such as temperature and solute concentration.

Black-shouldered kite (Elanus caeruleus) practicing the behaviour of «tail flicking», also referred to as «tail cocking» or «tail fanning». It performs this motion upon landing, whereupon it flicks its tail up and down repeatedly. This movement repeated continuously is thought to be a form of territorial display. The bird is also known as the black-winged kite. Filmed in the Auob riverbed of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in Southern Africa.
