MINDEN PICTURES: AMBIENTE
Good news for some of our marine friends. On Friday a federal appeals court reversed a 2012 lower court decision approving the use of low-frequency sonar for training, testing and routine operations by the US Navy. The sonar can injure whales, dolphins, seals, sealions and walruses’ hearing while also disrupting their mating and feeding habits. The noise from the naval sonar drills can disorient and impair wildlife causing them to abandon their habitat or even strand themselves to escape the noise. Let’s celebrate this victory with some of our favorite sealife images.
